Since receiving elementary education and high school science teaching credentials from Humboldt State University in 2006, I have been teaching kindergarten at Ridgewood School. Prior to that, I worked as a field scientist for various public and private agencies thanks to a bachelors degree in botany. My current professional interests include writing instruction, the sensible use of technology in the primary classroom, and all things STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Recently, I co-facilitated a multi-year Next Generation Science Standards collaborative for K-12 teachers for the Humboldt County Office of Education and present professional development for fellow educators at regional conferences. I am currently working on an administrative credential and master's of arts in education at Humboldt State University. I am an ASCD emerging leader, Common Sense Education Certified EdTech mentor, former PBS LearningMedia digital innovator, teacher-consultant with the Redwood Writing Project, and former AmeriCorps member with the Watershed Stewards Program. I am the proud recipient of a Wells Fargo Distinguished Educator Award (2008), an Excellence in Teaching Award (2016), Humboldt County Teacher of the Year (2016-2017), and was named a semi-finalist for California Teacher of the Year (2017).
